Pastor's Message
Dear Friends in Christ,

Gifted and Grateful! We're going to ponder this theme this fall as we gather for worship, and Christian education, and fellowship, and service.

As people of God, we are gifted in many ways, individually and together. We have gifts of faith, compassion, love, service, generosity, leadership, hope, imagination and much more! We have the gifts of young people, and seniors, and youth, and adults, and long-time members and new members. And we have resources of time, talents, possessions, as well as partners in ministry (like our church camps, colleges, neighboring congregations, seminaries.).

We'll keep noting and asking this fall: How are we gifted? so that we can also consider How are we grateful? And how can we, individually and together, live lives of thanksgiving and gratitude?

As Pete Kutzora notes in the article below, we really do want to include everyone in a wonderful study entitled: Gifted and Grateful. You may not know right now how you'll fit that in to your schedule, or what to expect. I'm pretty sure we'll find this brief study to be something for which we are quite grateful! It will bring us closer to God, the Giver of every good gift! And it will draw us closer to each other, as we share our gifts and our gratitude.

Quoting St. Paul echoing, "I am thankful/grateful for your partnership in the Gospel from the first day until now!" (Philippians 1:5)

John 20=Risen Jesus + Thomas + Us Bible Background: John records the risen Jesus making multiple, very personal, and very convincing appearances. Tradition refers to “Doubting Thomas”, but pay attention to the rest of his story! Digging Deeper: 1. We first meet Thomas in John 11,

Matthew 28:16-20 = Great Commission Bible Background: In Matthew, this is the only appearance of the risen Jesus to the group of disciples. It takes place on a ‘mountain’ (remember: close encounters with God often take place on mountaintops in scripture!), in Galilee. Matthew makes

Matthew 28 = Resurrection, Fear, and Joy! Bible Background: Each of the gospels tells of the resurrection. All 4 agree on a) an empty tomb; b) that Mary Magdalene is the first person there (other women are included by Matt-Mark-Luke); c) that this takes place early in the morning; and that d)
