The Ruth Circle put up the Winter Warmth Tree and are asking for donations
of hats, gloves, mittens, and scarves of all sizes and styles to help the needy
in the area this winter. You can put your items on or under the tree by December 1st.
"Unafraid-Day 15" I visited 4 year old Madeline at Children's Hospital today. She's spent a good part of the month there, with a scary condition. I would not expect Madeline or her parents to be unafraid! But today I saw courage in her young eyes, and in her mom's weary eyes, and that gives me hope! She wanted to know why people were praying for her. I told her because we love her and we want her to be well and get home soon. "God...you have protected me ever since I was born." Psalm 71 ... "Unafraid" is our theme for Lent. For the 2nd time in 4 days, I met an unafraid stranger! It happened today, while shopping at Pick N Save South. I had passed another shopper in the store who-from appearances-seemed perhaps to be a bit developmentally challenged. A few aisles later, I passed her again. But this time she called out "Sir! Would you take this?" And she handed me two crayon-drawn pages with words of kindness and love! (Not what you expect when you're trying to rush in and out of a store, to grab a few groceries!) She had at least a dozen more such handouts in her cart!
....Which makes me suspect that her 'shopping mission' was really a 'spread-some-sunshine' mission. And, in her own bold, simple way, she did just that!
In an era when we often hesitate to talk to strangers-much less offer a part of ourselves-this woman was today's model of courage and kindness for me! ... See MoreSee Less
